South Australian (SA) Courses

The SA Office of the Technical Regulator (OTR) – Water and Sewerage Infrastructure Team (Infrastructure technical regulation | Energy & Mining) monitors and regulates water, sewerage, and recycled water network infrastructure across SA. One of OTR's primary objectives is to provide technical and safety education to Water Industry Entities (WIEs) and associated stakeholders.

In 2022, OTR successfully partnered with the Queensland Water Directorate (qldwater) to make the learning tools on their training platform (watertraining.com.au) available to South Australian Water Entities and associated stakeholders. The first course released under this partnership was the SA Brown Card training, where OTR collaborated with other South Australian Water Industry Regulators to develop a tailored version of the course.

To continue supporting capacity-building initiatives for WIEs, OTR conducted a “Training Needs” survey in March 2025. Based on the survey results, OTR plans to add several new courses to the South Australian water training portal by the end of 2025. These courses will also be offered at no charge and will aim to develop basic knowledge in the following water/wastewater topics:

  • Water Chemistry
  • Water Calculations
  • Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) Introduction
  • Risk Management (to be developed by OTR)

The following courses are currently offered for free for SA water entities and their approved contractors.
